@NorthWestMommy do you have a list of words that make you smile? Maybe it's the way they sound or the meaning - perhaps a #mondaylisticles? When I saw this week's Listicles topic, I had an idea right away. I love language & after years of studying linguistics & watching Sprout acquire language, my favourite words are ones he uses, of course! When I thought of the words for the list, they all ended up being words that he doesn't pronounce properly. Which, I suppose makes them cuter.

"Look at all the sheepsiz!" at Maplewood Farm |
- owligator (elevator)
- window-door (sliding glass door--he made up his own word recently when visiting Oma & Opa. I guess he'd never heard the proper term before, as we don't have one at home.)
- kimmih (from c'mere, meaning 'I want you to pick me up', an old baby word that he continues to use, particularly when a bit upset.)
- bug feet (pins & needles sensation in the feet--love this one!)
- dwar (door)
- yogoot (yoghurt)
- bur (bear--when he says it, the word sounds like 'beurre')
- sheepsiz (sheep, plural--part of a recent trend of double-pluralizing things)
- pick-up-dump-twuck (pickup truck, I have no idea how this became combined with dump truck into one word. He knows they're different things)
- mama (no translation needed, I just love hearing him call me this)

what a great idea to write your favorite words your son says...very cute. I LOVE hearing my son say "mommy" always a great thing even in the middle of the night or early in the morning.
ReplyDeleteI love, love, love toddler talk! They are so funny!
ReplyDeleteEven though I hear it daily, it still astonishes me how well he can communicate compared to a year ago. Language development is definitely my favourite thing to watch with kids. :)
DeleteI like your list. You are right there is no better word to bring a smile to our face than MAMA
ReplyDeleteEven if he's upset or angry when he says it, there's still something... :)
DeleteAdorable. As I was making my list yesterday, I thought it would be fun to do kid words too. I especially like sheepsiz. So cute.
ReplyDeleteWhen he asks for 'nutsiz' for a snack, that cracks me up every time too. :)
DeleteCute list! My nephew calls my Dad a 'pep'-squeak' instead of a 'pip'-squeak - my parents really get a kick out of it. Awe - I love the pluralized sheep word.
ReplyDeleteHappy Monday Listicles!

Pep squeak is pretty good! Happy Listicles to you too! :)
DeleteThis is priceless! You will be so glad you have this recorded somewhere!
ReplyDeleteYup, this blog is part baby book, definitely. :)
DeleteMama is definitely the best! Love your list. Happy Monday!
ReplyDelete:) Thanks!
DeleteAww!
ReplyDeleteMy daughter used to say "Lellow" instead of yellow. It broke my heart the day someone told her how to say it correctly.
Regarding yoga: my niece used to say it's something you can eat AND something you can do.
I know exactly what you mean! We've started using 'yogoot' & 'owligator' just so he won't stop... :) Eating yoga--LOL!
DeleteYou just inspired me to start recording all the little talk. It comes and goes so fast! Priceless.
ReplyDeleteHappy Monday Listicles! (Though it's Friday and I'm so late to the party)
