Surviving Cold Season: a Review of Swiss Naturals Organic Echinacea

As you might have figured out from reading this blog before, I'm not big on using synthetic chemicals when healthier, more natural substances will work. I've previously talked about ditching toxic personal care products like deodorant & shampoo then making my own effective ones out of things from my kitchen. I apply the same logic to treating minor illnesses like colds & flus. If there is an effective natural product that will help me get well--or better yet avoid getting sick in the first place--I'm all over it. (Just to be clear, I do use conventional medicine & wouldn't avoid antibiotics, for example, when really necessary.)

Aside from rinsing my nose, as I wrote about earlier this week, Echinacea is an important tool in my arsenal. I've been using Echinacea in various forms to help boost my immune system to better fight off colds & flus for over a decade. When I was offered the chance to write a sponsored post for Swiss Natural Certified Organic Echinacea, I jumped on board without hesitation.

In case you haven't heard much about Echinacea before, it's a traditional herbal medicine typically used to treat sore throats due to colds. The medicinal properties of this popular herb were discovered by aboriginal people in North America many years ago. The two most potent species of this plant include Echinacea Angustifolia & Echinacea Purpurea--you may have seen these two members of the daisy family growing in your neighbours' gardens & not realized what they were.

Echinacea activates the cells of the immune system to help fight off colds, flus &  infections, support therapies that act to treat colds, flus, upper respiratory tract infections as well as help relieve sore throat & other cold symptoms. I generally take it a few times a day when I feel like I'm coming down with something & it helps my body fight it off. Lately I've been uncharacteristically healthy (knock on wood that it continues!) so it was Oliver who tried out Swiss Natural Certified Organic Echinacea capsules. He took it a couple of days when he started feeling a bit under the weather & then he didn't get sick.

Each Swiss Natural Certified Organic Echinacea gelatin capsule contains 1200mg of Echinacea--adults & teens over 15 are recommended to take 3-5 a day when needed. Besides being organically grown, Swiss Natural Certified Organic Echinacea has no artificial flavours, colours, preservatives, dairy, corn, soy, gluten, wheat or yeast. If you have trouble swallowing pills, you can open the capsules & take the powdered Echinacea with some water, or you could try it in a liquid form, also available by Swiss Natural.

Disclaimer: this is a sponsored post & we received a sample of the product to try out. The opinions are my own. This information is not intended to replace advice from your medical care provider.

  1. Thank you for your honest review of this supplement. Besides fighting off a cold or the flu, what benefits have you found from taking Echinacea?
