If you couldn't make it to my Stitch & Bitch, you can still help Beauty Night help women in Canada's poorest neighbourhood with a few clicks. Caroline explains what Beauty Night is about & how you can help:
Want an easy way to change the lives of women and children in the Downtown Eastside? An organization building self-esteem and fostering wellness in the DTES could win $15,000 to support their programs, but needs your vote. Vote at www.changemakers.com/bcideas - it'll only take 30 seconds, and can completely turn lives around!
Beauty Night has changed my life - it's taught me what the most meaningful things I can do for my friends and community are, and I'm committed to seeing that Beauty Night can continue to touch lives.
Beauty Night helps senior citizens, mothers, children, street youth, and survival sex workers build self-esteem, because being empowered to make life changes means believing you are worth changing for. Beauty Night fosters this empowerment by building an inclusive community that accepts and supports its members. The positive community environment encourages women to participate in the wellness and life skills programs held at Beauty Night, including yoga, foot care, walking clinics, cervical cancer screening and more. Make-overs are used to help women celebrate who they are inside and all they can become, and serve as a bridge through which women can feel part of the community. Beauty night helps women be connected to support programs and be ready to accept support.
Beauty Night serves two hundred women every week - please help Beauty Night continue doing so by voting for us to get funding! When you go to vote, it will ask you to create an account and verify your e-mail by clicking on a link that they e-mail you - but it does only take 30 seconds, they haven't spammed me at all yet, and its only one more click to unsubscribe if you want to. Voting ends Nov 9th
Please please help! Beauty Night is already one of 11 finalists out of 466 entries, but only the top three get funded. Feel free to forward this message to friends and family; every vote counts. Thank you for your time! Or please share link to voting on Twitter (we are @beautynight on twitter) or on Facebook, Linked In or Google+.
Kind regards,
Caroline
