Help a Local Non-Profit Help Women in the Downtown Eastside

Today I'm getting together with some friends to sew a few hundred Christmas stockings as part of Beauty Night's 12 Days of Christmas Campaign. The stockings will get filled with donated cosmetics, personal care products & small gifts then given to 1500 women, children & youths living in poverty this holiday season.

Beauty Night has changed my life - it's taught me what the most meaningful things I can do for my friends and community are, and I'm committed to seeing that Beauty Night can continue to touch lives.

Beauty Night helps senior citizens, mothers, children, street youth, and survival sex workers build self-esteem, because being empowered to make life changes means believing you are worth changing for. Beauty Night fosters this empowerment by building an inclusive community that accepts and supports its members. The positive community environment encourages women to participate in the wellness and life skills programs held at Beauty Night, including yoga, foot care, walking clinics, cervical cancer screening and more. Make-overs are used to help women celebrate who they are inside and all they can become, and serve as a bridge through which women can feel part of the community. Beauty night helps women be connected to support programs and be ready to accept support.
