What is it?
Larabar Fruit & Nut Energy Bar
How does it work?
Obviously, you eat it--but I more often give pieces of it to Sprout for a snack when we're out & about.
Why is it good?
I try to stick to Michael Pollan's rules for defining 'real' food when I'm buying any food in a package: few ingredients, nothing unpronounceable. Larabars fit the bill, some of the many flavours have only TWO ingredients. The ingredients include fruit & nuts, no weird additives, preservatives, colours or anything else you probably shouldn't eat. Don't be fooled by the names of the flavours: though they're called pie, cake & cookie, there's no added sugar. The fruit is pureed, the nuts are chopped quite finely, & the whole things is fairly moist, not at all crunchy, so I think this is a pretty safe snack for little ones.
Where can I get it?
I've seen it at Whole Foods, Costco & even convenience stores.
How much does it cost?
$1-2 a bar (cheapest at Costco)
*I didn't get any freebies or compensation in any way to write this review.
I also get them at London Drugs - they have good sales there at times.
ReplyDeleteRIGHT! Never even realized they have them. I'll watch out for the next sale... I need to program some kind of sale bot that will prowl the online flyers & websites to tell me when they're below a certain price... Or, rather, find someone who can program this for me. Or maybe this already exists? Anyone?
DeleteI love these bars, and have seen numerous recipes online how to make your own (really, a recipe isn't exactly needed - basically throw dates and nuts into a food processor).
ReplyDeleteI have yet to try my hand at them, but if I do, and they turn out, I'll let you know! ;)
I know, it's kind of embarrassing that I hadn't really even considered making my own two-to-six-ingredient goop bars... Heh. I imagine they'd be WAY cheaper if made at home.
