Today we're up at the crack of seven (I'll stop whining now, as I have a baby who usually gets up at the reasonable hour of 8am) to head over to North Vancouver for the Great Cloth Diaper Change. It's a worldwide attempt at an official Guinness World Record for most cloth diapers changed simultaneously & also a way to celebrate Earth Day by putting one less disposable into the landfill & using a real diaper. Our local event is at Notable Kids Music Studio on Lonsdale at 9am. New & Green Baby Co is organizing & providing an 'event diaper' for a discount: a Bummis Superlite cover & an organic hemp prefold. Looking forward to trying that out.
If it's before 9am on Saturday, April 23rd & you're interested in participating, you can do so virtually on Facebook here. Happy (belated) Earth Day!
I'll report back when we get home to let you know how it all went...
UPDATE:
We came, We saw. We diapered! The goodie bags were awesome (Thanks New & Green!) & included a Lunapads pantyliner, a little shaker egg & 'scarf' from Notable Kids, some Taslie bum wash, a terry wipe, a sample of Rockin'Green detergent & coupons.
Sprout wore his official Event Diaper all the way to Costco & home without one leak in four hours. I thought it looked rather large when we got it as we went in, but it fits really well. The velcro is pretty grippy too, so it might resist his attempts to de-diaper himself. (yes, at 7 months he started pulling the velcro open already!)
If I like the hemp prefold over the next few weeks, I'll definitely buy more. I have to say, after using the Bummis cotton prefolds for 8 months now, I'm a convert. They're just so versatile & they last FOREVER. The ones we've got have been through four bums now, I believe: my nephew & twin nieces.
It was great to see you guys today - as always! Thanks so much for taking part!
ReplyDeleteOnly 3 bums! Jonah was diapered with Kushies..I wish I had found a place to buy Bummis when he was a baby. N&G wasn't around yet!
ReplyDeleteIs the hemp prefold a babykicks? I have 2 of them-they are thinner than the cotton ones, but not as absorbant, I find. Bummis prefolds still are the best I have found!
Yeah, Bummis prefolds are pretty awesome. I keep thinking I should try to find that fabric & make some more bigger ones eventually. But for the price of the cloth & my time to cut & sew, I think it wouldn't be worth it. :)
ReplyDeleteWe've only used the hemp one once so far, so I can't really give it a proper review as yet.
